Drumroll please -- this week's first prize is.....

It's been pouring out today, all day long. Normally, I'd think it was a blah day because of it, but our grass was starting to get crunchy and I didn't have to water my flowers so I'm thinking, "Score"! Well, I am officially ready for the first full week of wagon. I ran my 30 minutes today and went food shopping. Again, the rain was good because after the run (on the treadmill) I had that whole entire shirt-sweat thing going -- the kind that made me look like either I had a tremendous workout or it was my first workout ever and I huffed and puffed and sweated through the whole thing. But by the time I ran through the torrential downpour into the store, no one would ever know how actually nasty I was.

For eating over the next two months (and beyond), I am doing a sort of variation of Body for Life, where I eat 6 small meals; a little protein, a little carb, and a lot of veggies. It's amazing actually how many meals I got in this shopping trip--in the past, I'd have bought some seriously crap food and gotten a lot less for the same amount of money I spent today. Score, again! Really, I wouldn't even consider this much of a "diet" -- it's not much more than eating sensible foods and meals, more often throughout the day. It's food I'd normally eat anyway, like eggbeaters, wheat bread, grilled chicken, turkey, tuna, salad, veggies, oatmeal, fruit, all of that. Coupled with the running and weights, I lost a nice little chunk the last time I did this a couple of years ago when I lived in Salt Lake City. That's where I ran my first (and only) 5K. I had a little guidance from a personal trainer at my gym back then who tweaked my workouts and I saw results in weeks. Fingers crossed it'll work again.

So, for prizes in this little Summer Slimdown, I'm gonna give away some of my favorite things -- and that includes some of the things I cannot live without in life. This week, it's music. It has gotten me through everything -- especially workouts. Once I am inside the gym, and on the treadmill and the music starts, I go into my own little world and I feel like I can stay there forever. That's why this week's prize is a $25 I-Tunes gift card. Remember, sign the linky on Friday with your weigh-in results, and I'll draw the winner at random and post the winner on Saturday. So if you have if you haven't joined us yet, come on it! The water's nice!

  1. Music works, even though it does nothing to my appetite

  2. Great Prize!
I ran outside yesterday for the first time since the fall. I think I looked more like I was having an asthma attack than jogging. But I managed to go 35 minutes (and only had to stop and walk after I made it up the big hill). Keeping my fingers crossed that the weight will start coming off. It was so warm yesterday that I can see "shorts weather" in my future and to be honest, I can't see myself as wearing shorts at this point.
