Motivation Monday

Good morning!

We'll keep it short and sweet this morning. I've had a case of the writer's blocks lately and everything seems to be running late this morning and well, with rushing around and waiting for my sister to pop so I can hop a flight and make it to labor (wish me luck on that one!!) I can see it's just going to be one of those weeks crammed with rushing around and that panicky must-get-stuff-done feeling.

Where are you, Maddie?? As of Friday, the day before her due date, she was ZERO centimeters dilated. I told her maybe it was a good thing so she could sleep in since they will be her last days to sleep in EVER. For the rest of her life.

Anyway, I did it. I ran 4 1/2 miles, officially the longest run ever for me, on Sunday. From here, my Sunday runs just get longer. And now my mantra has become, "What's one more mile?" That 10k is literally just around the corner. And I think I might even be ready for it when it comes! Woohoo!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! See that WWBD button? Click it and it takes you to the different HFH buttons that you may have and hold from this day forward.

The prize this week comes from Running Free, an online athletic store that literally has everything in the world from books and dvds to workout and running gear, sunglasses, socks, shoes, yoga stuff, whatever! I saw my favorite new trinket on there that I am going to ask Santa for Christmas, a bracelet that tracks how many miles you've run and how many calories you've burned and your pace and your time. Anyway, Running Free is giving away a $20 gift card to their online store and even if you're not a runner, there is something for you on there. So don't forget to weigh in this Friday to be eligible for the giveaway.

On to this week's little project for Friday. Pretty much everyone has a love-hate relationship with their body. What I'd like to know is, when you think about your body, which part do you want to "refine" during this process? And think about or find out what exercises you have to do to make that happen. I'll give you a preview of my answer: I am obsessed with my shoulder muscle. I want to tone my arms so I have that teardrop-looking muscle on my shoulder to come down and meet my tricep, which, in this scenario, would also be visible to the naked eye. I have always had a complex about what I call "fatarm" in the pictures I take and when I was heavier, refused to wear tanktops or even short-sleeves. I have fixed this a little to the point where I'm no longer embarrassed about them, but I still need some toning.

But before you get on a rampage here on bashing your body, think, too, about your favorite part, because this is a two-parter. There's gotta be something! So introduce us to your favorite part, and hey, if you want to add pictures to your essay (clean ones, but I know I don't have to say that with this group), then feel free to do that too! I have two parts that literally throughout thick and thin that I thought at one point, hey, everything else I don't like, but at least I have you, parts.

The point this week is to become aware and proactive about specific changes you want to make about your body, rather than just "losing weight", while still appreciating the perfectness you have in other areas. I believe so much in having parallel goals. Because I believe when you make a goal generically about "losing weight" very often you lose sight of it, especially when you don't see changes right away. When you focus on "training" or "toning" specific areas, when you narrow in on something, you've taken the focus a little off the "pounds" part, and hence, the pressure off yourself, which, ironically, tends to help in the weightloss part. That's why, instead of focusing on weight loss, I focus on training for a run, or I do specific workouts to target specific areas. Don't get me wrong, you've caught me getting down on myself a time or two on here about the "weight" part, but I really do try to focus on getting my runs and my workouts in rather than the numbers game.

Good luck this week! Is your week off to a good start? Feel free to sound off here and check in! Oh yea, so much for "short and sweet". Haha!

  1. Thanks Christie this weeks challenge sounds fun and exciting hahaha! I am going to have to really think long and hard about whether there is anything on my body I like below my neckline=)On kind of the same note: I do feel great this week so bring on the fat trimming....I hope that little Princess arrvies soon. I don't have ANY nieces or nephews so I am so very jealous! I gave my brother 4 the least he could do is give me 1!!!

  2. The scale is being rather nice to me so far this week... I hope it continues that way.

I'm having trouble with my hotmail account. Could you re-send your last email to me to akaroscoe at yahoo dot com instead? Thanks!!

  3. Great job on the run! I am hoping to do a 10K as well. Definitely in the spring!

I've been working on building muscle the last couple months, and I was just looking at my shoulders and seeing some real definition. It's so exciting! Gonna keep working on that!

  4. This is great question this week! You must have been reading my mind when I posted about changing up my work out and the personal struggle I have to do that because I love to run. But your right I need to start targeting other areas of my body!!!Maybe I could run in the morning and then lift weights after school so that I can still pick up my son from day care by 4. I hate for him to be there longer than 9 hours!!!

Talk to me, Goose!

I love comments. Who doesn't love a good comment?
