I don't get a lot of "me time" these days. You are probably nodding in agreement right now. In fact, I have so little "me time" I am in complete "me-time-deficit". In the red.
The me-time-debt collectors are calling and the phone is ringing off the hook.
I miss "me time". I miss not having to choose between staring blankly into space just for a few minutes of braindead-ness and picking up the phone to catch up on my phone calls. I am resorting to lying about things like having to use the restroom just to get a five second span of silence, that is, before someone figures out where I am and knocks on the door and tries to open it repeatedly. I miss having enough of nothing to do that I can sit and read a book.
The one solace, the one place I have found comfort and space these few weeks has become the sacred of the most sacred places in my life; no, not the bathroom -- apparently that's a public place these days; and not church -- we really should start going again now that Lent is over. It is: The Gym.
It used to be that I dreaded lacing up and heading out the door. Or having to fit it in before or after work when there were bagels to be had -- or dinners to go out to. Now, Thee Gym has become a sanctuary to me. Where my phone is laying securely in the locker. My I-Pod is on a deafening full-blast, and no one, no one in the world can find me. MWAHHAHHHAHHAHHA!
And it's not just the gym. It's the silent car-ride to and fro. Or the all-the-windows-down-radio-on-full-blast uh-oh I've been caught rocking out to Miley Cyrus in a mini-van-type of car ride. That, my friends, is luxury for me these days.
Ahh. The gym.
Just for one hour. Six days a week. Me-time. Thank you.
ps. Have you entered my tea giveaway yet? Only a couple days left!

Yes, I feel ya on the me time. I have to stay up late at night so I can get a little. Although, I took David to daycare today, just so I could go try on clothes at Target. It was so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteYes! Totally! You go girl. It is a wonderful get away. And the benefit is also great! I am so thankful for the daycare at the Y! It has been a good child abuse prevention method for me.
ReplyDeleteha ha
Yes, me time. I miss mine too. And now that I think about it, I think you are on to something...
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like I need a little 'gym' in my life :)
