Happy Bloggiversary To Me!

Now is the time when I sing!

Happy Bloggiversary to me! Happy Bloggiversary to me! Happy Bloggiversary dear Mr. Poopy/Baby Tea Leavvvvvves! Happy Bloggiversary to meeeee!!!! Woohooo!!

I looked the other day to see when I began to try my hand at blogging and realized it was two years ago today! To the day!

I cannot believe it's been two years since I first plugged in and discovered this whole other world out here called the "blogosphere". Where there were things called "memes" like the Thursday Thirteen and "buttons" and "music players for blogs" and "code" and "links" and all of these other things I really only heard about but never really paid any attention to.

But most of all there were people. People who had found this world years before me. Other moms, other preemie moms, other writers, whose written words I would cling on to and listen to and care about and admire for years. And I began following their lives. Just as they began following mine.

No one believes me that this other world exists. No one in the normal, non-blogging world, that is. In fact, when I mentioned the "blogosphere" to my husband even recently, he asked me, "Don't you get there by going through the wardrobe? Like in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? And when you come out and try to tell everyone what you saw, they think your full of $#&*? Isn't that what it is?"

And I laughed because yes, that's true, and I must have made a thinking face to which he responded, "You're thinking that this is blogworthy, aren't you?" And indeed I was.

Anyway, I first started writing on The Mis-Adventures of Captain Poopy. My very first post was short and sweet. I was still all post-partum-y, had had a preemie little boy 5 months prior to that, and desperately needed a writing outlet, being a writer and all by profession. I used it as a platform to discuss poop and show pictures of my first little Poops and it was mostly for family.

I did not get my first comment until Day 3 when I talked about how poop really is cute if it's from your own kid and it was from my husband. I didn't become obsessed with comments until I discovered the Thursday Thirteen and I got 14 in one day! 14!

You know where it went from there. Obsession. Sweating until the very next time I could log on. Logging on for "just a minute" before all of a sudden noticing that one minute had turned into 3 hours. Writing down things that were "blogworthy". Taking pictures that were "blogworthy".

But wow. How many memories! I started scrolling through and reading all of my old stuff, like about the first time I tried on Mom Jeans by accident *shudder* and by the way it seems I've been stuck in a reinvention-slash-identity crisis for oh, about two years now, looking back on all my posts. I guess writing things where you have a record of yourself is both good and bad. But the good is that I remembered so much that I would have otherwise forgotten! Like when my dad gave us all bathmats because he feared for our safety. My attempt at baby haiku. And the jumproping disaster of '06. Or when I wrote about my experience covering September 11th as a journalist living and working in New York City. Or when I had finally gotten the courage to write for the first time about my anger for having preeclampsia during my first pregnancy which resulted in the early birth of my little boy. Blogging helped me bury the hatchet. And yes, it's truly buried, still. Thank God. How therapeutic writing is for me.

When I was pregnant with Mini, I wasn't sure where my blog was headed. So when Mini was born, so was Baby Tea Leaves. I couldn't very well have a blog dedicated to my first son and not my second! And this one became more about me and my identity crises (plural), my quest for weightloss, a place to air my goofballness like my Fun With Peeps (peeps photoshoots).

Anyway, thanks for being along for the ride. I love this world. I just can't believe what a wonderful world it is.

  10. Happy, happy blogoversary to you! You have become one of my favorites. I agree that the blogosphere is like a whole other world full of some really interesting and talented folks.

I never really celebrated my blogoversary because I started blogging years ago but just very sporatically and not often. If I had to pick, it would be June of last year when I started blogging regularly. I'm still amazed to see that people actually read and comment on my blog - at the start there were none. I also love that I've gotten to "meet" you through blogging. Very cool, indeed!

PS - I'm enjoying my last day of lazy and fattening bliss. Damn you. Er, I mean, thank you. ;)
