Om Nom Nom

bondibandcollectionOmNomNom
I have a Bondi Band obsession! That's one of my favorite Bondi Bands right there because there's no better way to make fun of myself and my (former) fear of open water swimming than wearing a shark that wants to eat me and thinks I'm tasty! (Scuse the makeup marks, I wear it all the time. Yes, you'd think I'd have cleaned it for its debut on the internet, but I'm too lazy for that.)

What?! You don't know what a Bondi Band is???? I am showing off the rest of my collection and screaming about my love for Bondi Bands from the top of the rooftops over at the Sisterhood today and we're giving one away, too! I'm so excited! So you must go to there! And get your shot at it!

Well, we're off to Toy Story 3 today for family movie time! Did you see it? How did you like it? Hope you have a great day!

More from Fitbloggin + a Post Fitbloggin (David Grotto) Giveaway

Look at that group! That's pretty much all of the bloggers who went to Fitbloggin 10. Awesome.

The key note speaker when Fitbloggin wrapped up was David Grotto, nutritionist extraordinaire, speaker, tv and radio personality, spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association (the list goes on!) and finally, author. He's hilarious, he's got a gigantic personality and he makes nutrition fun.

Case in point: his version of WTF is "where's the fiber?"

In one week from now, our Monday Project at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans will be to read a healthy book or a book about nutrition or cooking or fitness or something health-related. (I know, what am I doing spilling the beans already?!) I will be reading this book:
101Foods
101 Foods That Could Save Your Life, by David Grotto. I've heard of it before and I've been wanting to read it for a while. Since he was a guest speaker there, I got one and I got it signed! But the cool part is I have a signed copy to also give away!

  • So. Just leave me a comment telling me if you've ever heard of this book or David Grotto!
  • Become a fan of my Facebook page about my event Christie On a Treadmill at the Mall - which is this Saturday already! Whoa! (Raising money for Team Shrinking Jeans for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training!)
  • You can tweet it for an extra entry.
  • You can get up to three entries but you must leave a separate comment for each entry.
  • The contest closes at Wednesday night at midnight EDT so I can ship it out Thursday and get it to you by next week in time for the Monday Project!
If you're not doing the Monday Project, that's ok, it's still a pretty great book (or at least I'll be sure of that next week after I read it!) If you don't know what the Monday Project is, I write up a post at The Sisterhood with a project, you get all week to do it, then you link up your post on Friday so we can all come by and read it. (In fact, you can see what this week's Monday Project is HERE.) Anyway, leave me a comment, random winner gets the book and we can compare notes after we've read it next week! Have a great week!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Shrinking Jeans Olympics

Good morning! I am having the best time doing the Shrinking Jeans Olympics! For the span of the Winter Olympics, we have events going on every day (only these ones are doable -- no triple sow cow necessary or whatever that's called) at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. You really gotta check it out here, and plus there are medals involved! Sort of.

Anyhoo, I'm down one pound this week. Which is amazing because I didn't count points this week thank Goodness I didn't say that out loud. I didn't eat perfectly but I have religiously worked out, even when I was left all alone home last week alone with two sick kids. I bought a bike trainer (I even vlogged one of the workouts but apparently the camera wasn't pointed up high enough, so it was 40 minutes of headless bike rider or riding torso, depending on whether you're cup half full or empty. And I rode my own bike inside the house every day that I couldn't get away to the gym. (LOVE!) I'll try the vlog again at some point too. But I actually don't remember when my last "day off" was. Which isn't good! We must take days off! I think mine will be Friday.

OH YES, AND HEY! I'M GIVING SOME STUFF AWAY!

tntstrengthI make these necklaces, it started out as a necessity because I couldn't find one that I could work out in that was short like a choker. So I bought the leather myself and started making them and I put affirmation rings on them ("Discipline," "Focus," "Courage," "Strength"- inspirational messages.) Of course, I also have silly ones (like the one I'm wearing), "I Need More Cowbell."

I opened up my own Etsy shop and started selling them and have had a great response!

Anyway, remember how I'm training for a half-marathon to fight cancer with the sisters of Shrinking Jeans? If you donate $20 or more (RIGHT HERE - and completely tax deductible), I'll send you a necklace of your choice (with a leather or satin cord, your choice.). If you donate less than that, I'll send you my silicone "Strength, Focus, Discipline" bracelet. (Picture of that is HERE.)
AND ANY DONATION WILL ENTER YOU INTO A RAFFLE FOR A $50 gift card to Dick's Sporting Goods or Barnes And Noble -- your choice.

So pretty please? I've only raised 1% so far. Don't you feel bad for me? I'm pathetic.

ps. I'm going to do something crazy when I reach my goal and I'm letting you vote on it starting next Monday!!
Have a great week! I hope you did wonderfully and I can't wait for the new challenge, I hear it's starting soon and it's really really cool!! Meantime make sure you go visit the rest of the sisters!

Giving and Fighting, all in one post!

Do you want a present? (I'm ok with bribery in some situations...)

You see, I make necklaces. They have inspiring or funny messages on them and I wear mine every day. Some days I wear "Focus," other days I wear "Discipline." Yes. They actually do help. They've become my weigh-loss and training lifeline.
tntstrength

And then sometimes (like now) when I need to stop taking myself so seriously, I wear my favorite, "I Need More Cowbell."

tntmorecowbell

They are all around 16'' in length (to fit a little looser than a choker) and some are made with a leather cord and others are made with a satin cord.

I am training hard for a 1/2 marathon for Team In Training with my girls from the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans as part of Team Shrink we're raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
tntlivelight

I am a long way from my goal. But you can help me. For every donation $20 and above, I will send you a necklace of your choice. Yes, just for donating, I will send you a present and token of my appreciation!
Because I love you. I can say that because I really do mean it.

You can have the message that you want and the cord style that you want. I have multiple of the above to choose from and all you'll have to do is specify which necklace and let me know whether you want leather or satin. The leather wears well, I swim in it and shower (sometimes twice) a day in it and it lasts forever.

For every donation between $10-$19, you'll get my favorite inspiring bracelet that says, "Strength, Focus, Discipline."
strengthfocusdiscipline

And on top of that, if you donate, no matter how much, you will be entered into a raffle for a $50 giftcard to either Dick's Sporting Goods or Barnes and Noble-your choice!

I will draw the winner's name when I hit my first $500.
Yes, I am taking this race for the cure very seriously. I am running for Rose, an old friend and roommate who I lived and worked with when I lived in New York. We took on the big city together.
rosie
In 2007, she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in when doctors found a tumor in her chest.

Her little boy is almost my son's age. Just thinking about having to battle cancer and fighting for my life just so I can be around to watch my son grow up brings tears to my eyes. I can't even type those words without getting choked up. It's unimagineable. Yet, it happens every day to millions of people.

Today, Rose is cancer-free.

rose

She fought so hard. I remember talking to her in between treatments and she was acting like it was just any other day, any other stress and it wasn't going to take her down. She refused to be defeated and she kept going. With a smile on her face and in her voice.

I have a lot of heroes in my life and she is one of them. Sadly, there are not many people in my life that have not been touched by some form of cancer and for all of them, I run. For every battle, every fear, every tear, for every moment they have fought and continue to fight, I run.

It is the least I can do.

Please join me in fighting alongside of them by donating here at my Team In Training Page. It is 100% tax deductible and you can use your credit card.

Oh, wait. There's more??

Next week, you will get to vote on what crazy I will do once I reach my goal. I have had a lot of suggestions and if you something I should add for people to vote on, please leave it in the comments! I am not above much.

Here is the list of necklaces to choose from:
Circle charms:
"Imagine"
"Passion"
"Strength"
"Focus"
"Courage"
"Discipline"
"Faith"
"Harmony"
"Power"
"Miracles"
Charms:
"I Need More Cowbell"
"I Do All My Own Stunts"
"Be Yourself"'
"Strength" - this one's a silver charm, not a circle
"Live Light" - also a charm, not a circle
A purple and silver sneaker
Silver shamrock on one side/ Good Luck on the other with a tiny crystal
Your choice of satin or leather, just leave your preference in the messages when you donate!

Peace, hugs and so much love to you.

Mantra Monday: Strength + Giveaway

Mantra Monday

Happy Monday!! How was your weekend?? It was a good weekend for me. A great weekend, really. I got my bike! Woot! My dad and I rode and it felt so good. I have to say, when it comes to a bike for someone like me who's five-foot-nothin', size totally matters! I have a bike that actually fits me. Until now, I never realized that every bike I ever had in my entire life has been way too big for me! I always felt like the bike had me, that the bike was in control, that the bike would launch me off at any given moment (and has, actually. There was that one time riding to biology class in college, a bloody knee, yada yada yada...) Not to mention that bar. You know the bar. The bar. The one that makes life miserable for any girl who falls forward off the seat.

But no problem here! I love my bike. I feel like a kid again.

But I'm coming up on the final four weeks of training for the triathlon and between the workouts and actual life, it's starting to get a little crazy. The inner panic is starting to set in about how on earth I am going to fit everything in.

So this Mantra Monday, it's about strength. I've found that pretty much anything in my life, or anyone's life for that matter, necessitates a great deal of strength. It really doesn't matter what it is. It could be a resolve to quit smoking, to not pick up that phone after a breakup (or drive by someone's house 150 times), it could be strength for willpower in working out or (ugh) dieting, it could be for someone facing illness or tantrums or financial hardship, physical weakness, it doesn't matter.

We all need strength. Almost every day I ask myself, God, or whoever's listening, for strength.

I've been known to stand in my living room among the screaming and crying, whispering to myself, "Oh God, please give me strength..."

At the end of a busy day when a certain little boy is discovered in the bathroom, covered in mommy's deoderant...

I've been known to say it on the first mile of a run that doesn't seem like it's going to pan out. Or in labor. Twice. And the millions of times in the inbetween. I need strength to keep going every day, in the face of whatever. Because at any given moment, weakness is hanging out, peeking from around the corner, waiting for "strength" to go on his coffee break so he can sneak up from behind...

Weakness is out to get me. But I'm not gonna let it. I need strength in such a way that I'm wearing it right now and it just happens to be one of my newest additions at my Etsy shop. So if you're in need of strength, guess what??? I'm giving it away this week to a lucky commenter!!

Just leave a comment telling me what you need strength for and I'll randomly select the winner and announce it on Saturday. The contest closes Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET. You can earn another entry by "Following" me, and another entry if you post about the giveaway on your own blog and link to it. That's three chances! You must, however, leave a comment for each entry.

Good luck! I hope that strength is plentiful for you as you go about your week! Happy Mantra Monday!

Blog Tour: Step Into Your Future and Giveaway

For as long as I remember, I've wanted to open up a tea room or bed and breakfast with my mom. We've already started compiling our tea room collection; tea pots, linens, and china, and every time we add to it, we feel like we're one step closer to realizing our dream.

Last year, when my mom and I really started to talk to people about our business, we spoke to the owner of a tea room that we loved and discussed the possibility of buying it from her. She wasn't going to give it up to just anyone because she had built a clientele and a great reputation in a very affluent area. She wanted to pass it on to just the right people. I felt like I had a connection with her. We had really only entertained the idea and when my mom and I went to make a reservation for tea there a couple weeks later in hopes of entertaining the idea some more, the number was disconnected. The tea room was no more.

And in hindsight, that made the reason why we visited that tea room in the first place a bit more ironic. Originally, we planned to hold my sister's baby shower at a tea room near my home. A quaint tea room with delicious food that we had grown to love. The week before the shower, they called to say they were closing unexpectedly and they were sorry but they were going to be unable to host the shower. That's how we found this other tea room; they were able to graciously accomodate us last minute. So we were saddened when we learned that just a few weeks later, it had also closed.

Was it the economy? What was making these tea rooms, a favorite of so many, suddenly close their doors? This made me worry about other women entrepreneurs whose businesses are suddenly slowing, especially because I was hoping to become a businesswoman myself. And when I saw the title of this book and the opportunity to be a part of the book tour for Step Into Your Future: A Businesswoman's Path to Profits, I jumped at it.

It may not be the right time for us (I know there will be an opening for us some day...) but I want women everywhere to have a shot at success in this trying economy. This business planning book provides business owners with, among other things, tools to help boost profits and ways to attract clientele. Here are excerpts from an interview with Rosemary Hossenlopp, the author:

“What’s specific inspiration changed your life … and why do you feel it had such
a ‘mind-shifting’ impact on you?”

Rosemary Hossenlopp: I believe in easy; an easy way to see what you
need to do and came up with a quick process that allowed me to identify steps
that accelerated my success."

“What specific incident inspired you to gather together this information and put together a book?

Rosemary Hossenlopp: "Let’s face it, being a Small Business Owner is HARD. You don’t have time to focus. You’re stressed and you rush around. You’re all over the place; catching planes, picking up kids and completing proposals and contracts. And it seems like you’re doing this all at once. You’re lost in the trees and blind to the forest.

Rosemary Hossenlopp: "The heart of success is figuring out what gets you the best results. You hear about business planning techniques that can help you focus on getting the business results you want. But you procrastinate in implementing them. I know this because I have been there too. It is overwhelming when you need to be the plumber, the accountant, the salesman and the person who delivers the goods. It is hard to make the time to work “on” the business and not work “in” the business." More planning advice is available at www.StepIntoYourFuture.com/teleseminar/

This book is about realizing and maximizing your business potential and if you're not seeing the profits you should be, especially in this economic climate, this book will help guide you in a better direction. I don't know what caused my favorite tea rooms to close, but I only wish that they had something like this to help them turn it around.

But, the good news here is, one of you might! I'm giving away one copy right here. So leave me a comment by Friday, March 27th at 8pm et and I will randomly select the winner and announce it on Saturday. Enjoy!

Saturday

Hooray for Kashi! And their generous giveaway!

Did you know that Kashi made pizza?
I, for one, did not.
And I'm a Kashi girl. I love their cereal, I love their waffles and all sorts of other goodness. Their seven grains are always on a mission in my house and I appreciate their mission. Very much.
I didn't know they had pizza until one day when I was waltzing through the frozen food aisle with the blessed harmony that is two toddlers sitting next to each other in a green racing car cart hitting each other and trying to steal each others' free cookies they just got (for being good) at the bakery.
And I saw a sign that would make any girl turn and look: the buy one-get one free sign. Oh yes. Speaking my language.
What I didn't expect was the beams from heaven shining down on this particular case of frozen food, carrying the heavenly Kashi Pizza from whence I had no idea about.

Kashi Pizza??? You mean to tell me Kashi has pizza???????

So normally the pizza is 6 bucks and it's the size of a DiGiorno. But with flatter crust. But these were on sale for $3 so I got two of them! I got a cheese and tomato, and a roasted vegetable.

The first one we ate while watching the inaugural balls. And can I just say, slice of pizza heaven, here????? The same goes for the veggie version. The sauce was incredible, the crust was crispy and chewy (at the same time! I love that!) and the vegetables were delicious! They tasted like they were marinated overnight. I can't even tell you the last time I was this excited about a frozen pizza. Seriously. It was ridiculously good. I've told all my friends and family about it and my mother-in-law went right out to buy it and agreed with me. Frozen pizza heaven. If there were such a thing, this would be it.

Ok, now for the calorie count. A serving is 1/3 of the pizza (about two slices) and is 250 calories. I can do that! You splurge and have another piece? That's not so bad either. The tomato pizza has 14 grams of protein, and the crust contains whole wheat flour. This is the most healthy, delicious pizza I have ever tried. Pair it up with a salad and you've got yourself a Friday night splurge without the splurge.
This is just another one of those things that I found on my own and had to rave about because that's what I do. And so I decided to write Kashi to tell them how much I love their pizza -- and we're getting to the good part here -- and I wondered in my writing if they'd send one of my readers a coupon for the free pizza.

Unfortunately, they said they don't normally do that -- but they WILL send one randomly selected winner a mega-sampling of Kashi products, which includes the following:
-A box of Apple Orchard Granola
-An assortment of Go Lean Bars
-A box of TLC Crackers
-A box of TLC Cereal Bars.

Can you believe that??

So here's the deal. You can get this giant smorgasboard of Kashi products if you:
1) Leave me a comment telling me which Kashi product is your favorite and/or if you've tried this pizza before.
2) The contest closes Wednesday, March 18, at 8pm e.t. and the winner will be announced Thursday.
3) You can get another entry if you subscribe to my feed. (Leave a separate comment if you do.)
4) And another entry if you blog about the contest and link to it. (Leave another separate comment if you do that.)

Contest is open to bloggers and non-bloggers -- you just have to make sure I have a way to get a hold of you, either through a blog or an e-mail address (or both).

So that's three shots at winning! And if you haven't tried their pizza, you must. You must you must you must. Enjoy!

Cutest Review Ever! (Which means...)

A Christmas giveaway! Instead of some words of inspiration or motivation this week which is Christmas (because I know everyone in training is going to remain in training -- and can I just say real quick, how cool is it that we have totally exercised right through the holiday season without stopping and without gaining that Holiday Seven that everyone else seems to pack on? I'm proud of us.) I have something a little funner and less workout-ier.

OK so I've been waiting the longest time it feels like for my little man to be big enough for the Build-A-Bear Workshop.

When he turned two, I tried to bribe him into *not* yelling and acting like a lunatic at the mall play area by telling him we'd go right over there (this is me pointing) across the way to make his own little friend at the Build-A-Bear Workshop. Unfortunately for him, it was around lunchtime and that was a bribery that didn't work but only because he was done with his mall-life and we had to skedaddle before things turned really ugly. But everytime I pass one I want to go in and I know he will just love it because he's all about the "friends" and he's all about making choices, the independent little being that he is.

So you can imagine because I've always wanted to go, I jumped at the chance to review one of their little guys. The Build-A-Bear Workshop sent me a little Build-A-Bear but he's a Build-A-Moose technically because his name is Hal the Christmas Moose.

The Build-A-Bear Workshop has a couple of little cuties, just like Hal, special for the holiday season and they're all really cute, especially if you're looking for an inexpensive gift for a little girl or boy who wants to make a friend all by themselves. The process goes like this just in case you didn't know, and I didn't: your child picks the friend they want, and there's Hal and his sister, Holly, or Chilly Cheeks the Penguin for the holidays or they can pick out a bunny, koala, dog, cat, bear, turkey, oh yes, they even have turkeys...pretty much anything, really (they can stuff a turkey! hahaha!). If they want, they can record a little message that will play everytime they hug it. Then, they bring their friend to life by giving him or her a heart and helping to add the stuffing. Finally, they get their little friend some new digs. They can pick an outfit for their friend and they can choose any kind of outfit in the world from sports to Hannah Montana.

Now our Hal, he was sent to us nekked, so naturally we will have to the store to go get him dressed up and I think this could be the start of a Christmas tradition, because each year they come out with new holiday animals. But the cutest part about Hal is that his antlers light up! He's so cute and huggable that I'm really not sure which child of mine is going to get him because he's that cute and I know there will be some tugging, pulling and tears involved. But he's pretty child-proof, there are no hangy chokable parts so he's a good choice from ages one and up, so the little one will probably get him. So since the little guy will probably get him, that'll give me a good excuse to make one from start to finish with the older one when we go to get Hal dressed. Yeah, that'll work! Thanks for helping me work that out in my head! And that'll work out great because these guys are pretty affordable, especially because they are custom-made from start to finish.

So to prices. Nekked, Hal is $12, which is a pretty great price and a lot of their guys are $10 and $12. Outfits run about $10, and then you can get a sound or a message for anywhere between $1 to $8. A gift that your child makes all by him or herself for just over 20 bucks, that's pretty good! There are also accessories involved so you can make your friend for as little as $20 bucks but go up from there as much as you want depending on if you want sunglasses, shoes, etc, etc...
Oh, and older kids can make their friends come to life online when they leave the store, too, because there's this whole other bear-world going on at buildabearville.com, where they can name their friend and have him or her do all sorts of stuff!

The best part about this post? A giveaway, of course! The Build-A-Bear Workshop is giving you a $10 giftcard to their store and that will buy you an entire guy! So basically it's a free guy!

All you have to do is leave me a comment by 8 p.m. et Christmas Eve telling me either who in your life would love to make a Build-A-Bear or what it was like when you made a Build-A-Bear if you have already. I will announce the winner here on Christmas Day. If you're a non-blogger, you'll have to leave your e-mail address so I can contact you, and if you're a blogger, just make sure that there is an e-mail address somewhere on your blog or in your profile so that I can reach you. Oh yes, and if you post about this contest on your blog, you get a second entry (just let me know in the comments!)
Happy Holidays everyone!!!!

Friday

Perfect End to a Perfect Day

I left a comment just a couple of weeks ago on Robin's blog about how one second your vacation is just starting and the next, you're packing up and headed home.

And MANNNN! It just happened to me! The week is already over! How unfair is that! I feel like I was just saying to my husband that I was so happy it was Sunday, because we still had the whole week ahead of us. But now it is Friday and it's over. It went by too quick.

We had a beautiful "staycation" though (that's the new term for a vacation close to home. Clever, huh?). And I did take approximately one billion pictures. If our staycation was a fireworks display, then this would be the grand finale:

The Sun Setting

The Sun Setting: two minutes later

The Sun has set.

Of course, after the sun has set, where do you go but to Kilwin's for ice cream and other bad sugary wonderfulness.

The most evil, evil sign in all of the world.

Subsequently, the most evil, evil display in all of the world. I am going to keep it to myself exactly how many slabs of fudge we have partaken in this staycation. The fact that they call it slabs should really be a red flag for me. But I will say that in the coming week, which I will call "the week of Detox", I will dedicate each workout to a particular meal-slash-sweet indiscretion.

Oh boy.

That will mean a lot of workouts.

A couple for fudge, one for the KFC, another for the pizza, the New York Strip, the sangria, the beer (or rather, the two trips to the Irish pub around the corner),
You know what? Who cares. It's the Summer of Me.

Bloggy Carnival Giveaway! A Review of Sorts

Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival Button

I love the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival! I had so much fun last time that I'm doing it again!

I have this thing about giving away my favorite things. It's not as fun for me to give things away just to give them away. When I love something so much, there is literally sheer joy involved in sharing it with people.

Like, for instance, the Bebe au Lait nursing cover. And lucky for me, there's a bloggy carnival going on! So I get to do a review-slash-giveaway combo platter!

So here's my two cents.

I am very modest. With my first child, I would go out and run errands and flee home when it was time to nurse. I liked nothing about nursing in public or nursing in a hot car, especially in Florida where the heat is unimaginable sometimes, even with the A/C going. So all of my errands had to be done in tiny windows between feedings. It was a little ridiculous.

And maybe it was my modesty that forced me to banish myself into a ladies room to nurse in a chair alongside all those yucky potties when he wanted to eat before I could get home. Ew. I hated that too. Why do we feel like we have to do that? It's gross! I wouldn't go to McDonalds and order my burger and go sit in the bathroom and eat it. So why is that good enough for my child? Ew. Even a nice bathroom is still just that. A bathroom. I wish I had nursed longer for child #1, but it didn't work out that way. We made it just shy of 6 months.

So when child #2 came, I wanted to own nursing. I knew I wanted to try for a year (maybe more), and I knew I wanted to be able to nurse anywhere without feeling ashamed. But I still have that modesty problem.

And a blanket just didn't do it for me. It's Florida! A blanket is hot and stifling (for everyone involved) and besides, those wandering babyhands just rip it off anyway. So I saw these nursing covers on line at Bebe au Lait and thought, hey, they're onto something here!

I bought the one above, called "Chocolat". It was my favorite pattern, although now that I go back to their site, they have so many new cute patterns and I like them all!

All patterns aside, I can't even tell you how much of a love affair I have with the actual cover itself. It's given me the freedom as a modest mommy to nurse wherever, whenever, without feeling guilty or embarrassed or nervous that someone would say something to me.

The fabric is very thin and light weight. I have had it crumpled in my diaper bag and it still doesn't wrinkle. And my baby stays cool when he's under it. You just drape it around your neck; the neck strap is adjustable, and there is a thin strip of bone in the neck of the cover that bows the fabric away from you. This allows air to get in while also allowing you to be able to see your baby and your baby to see you. It's genius!

Plus, before I lost some of the babyweight, I was really conscious about those little (or not so little) extra rolls I had on my side when I sat down and nursed, but the cover is as wide as it is long (without being overwhelming) that it also covers your sides (at least mine, anyway!) when you pull your shirt up and nurse. It literally covers everything!

There is even a little terry cloth pocket on the inside where you can stuff a burp cloth or pacifier, or you can actually use as a burp cloth if you're in a fix (which I have done a few times).

And me, modest mom, has nursed (thanks to this cover) at the zoo (the cheetah exhibit), the mall, the park, the aquarium, the beach, pretty much everywhere public. No one even knows the baby is under there, except for the fact that his little babyfeet poke out. And people see his little babyfeet and they think it is just too cute. But there is no reason for anyone to feel embarrassed when I nurse. I feel like I am feeding my baby, not exposing my hoo-has to the world.

Child #2 is now almost 8 months old (where did the time go??) and we are still going strong because I can nurse anywhere and everywhere. I have just bought the same nursing cover for my sister who's due in October, and one of my dear friends also has one (she has "Hot Dots" pictured below).I remember seeing her using it in her hospital room after the baby was born while some big burly maintenance men were fixing something on her bed and thinking how great it was that she could even nurse in front of big burly man-strangers without batting an eye!

Here's the good part: I asked Bebe au Lait if I could give one of them away because I loved their product so much that I wanted to share it with the world and they said yes! So here are the rules:

-Head over to Bebe au Lait and look around and leave a comment here telling me which one is your fave.

-Comments close Friday, August 1, at 8pm. Contest open to bloggers and non-bloggers.
-I will announce the winner Friday night.

That's all! Good luck! Hope you like it as much as I do!! Thanks Bebe au Lait!

The Race is On

Everything just moves so quickly in a baby's life.

I always promised myself that I wouldn't hold my children back because I wasn't ready to move on. But man it's hard. Ridiculously hard.

Especially when, instead of years, a baby's life is measured in months. Just a few small chunks of months at a time. And not only do the months move quickly, the changes and the milestones just go whipping by like you're on one of those high-speed rail cars in China. Or Japan. Or whereever those are in the Far East.

The way I see it, their whole personality develops and changes, literally, right along with the size of their clothes.

Like buying something in 0-to-three months. This is what I call, the "nub" phase. Where mainly they eat and sleep and cry and just plain old exist. Sure they look around and maybe begin to recognize you, but mainly it's a one-way street. You're sitting there "itchy-gitchy-gooing" away at them and they're looking at you like you're nuts. But however sleepless and shredded you are, nub phase is cute and cuddly and yummy nonetheless.

But then they grow out of "nub". And they're smiling and laughing and sleeping through the night and by golly me, the three-to-six clothes are on. But this one goes by so fast you almost completely miss it. I seriously almost did! By the time I pulled out three-to-six he was already in almost six-to-twelve. It's like nub to six months in 6 seconds.

The more I think about it, the parallels between their clothing sizes and their personality development is uncanny, really. Because as we changed sizes at three months, he had grown up more than just physically. He was sleeping through the night. Time didn't seem to drag on anymore because everyone was sleeping. And I say drag on because when you're not getting any sleep it seems like it's forever at the time, but then all of a sudden you're at three months and you get mad at yourself for being angry and bitter for not enjoying every second of that non-sleep.

Anyway, after nub phase is over and there's sleeping going on, then you're on solids (and subsequently) here come the 'stinky' poops and bam! He's sitting up and doing that military crawl across the room. And as fast as I pulled out those three-to-six clothes, I put them away and said bye-bye onesies.

Six-to-twelve felt like it was going to last longer because it is a six-month span, after all. But we're already close to 8 months now and I have no idea where the past two months went. I was cleaning out the older Poops' closet, and there was still a straggler shirt in there labeled "12 months" which went directly over into Mini's closet. Any day now, he'll fit that.

Zip zip.

For Poops, we're into the 2T phase. And up until 2T it moved quite quickly. The early months, of course, then the 12-to-18 where he started walking and using a big boy cup and wearing cute big boy clothes and kicking the soccer ball around and talking and understanding everything we're saying and eating with a fork and spoon.

Sigh.

18-to-24 months, his vocabulary quadruplified. He's actually joking around with me. He knows what's funny. He's serious. And he's hilarious. His personality is my husband. I know now, after so many phases and so many months, who he is. Because he's telling me.

This year is big for him. He is older. His clothes are bigger. There will be sentences, and counting, and letters and potty, and school starting next month and the purging of 18-24 month clothes out of his closet (see?) and as of today, a big boy bed with a real pillow and covers and responsibility! At the ripe old age of 2. (Pictures of this to come! They're awesome! I documented every moment of it, but I left the camera in his room and after lots of excitement followed by crying at the realization that this really is his new bed and he has to sleep in it and after lots of mommy and daddy coaxing and story reading because I've found that he already doesn't accept change well, I will not dare go in to get it. He finally is napping soundly in his new big boy bed.)

Anyway, I think it was the great Ferris Bueller who said it best. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Sometimes I wish that for just a few minutes, my life could be a DVR. And I could just hit pause.

A Little Bit of Etsy in my Life: A Giveaway Celebration!

I've been needing a little inspiration in my life lately. You know, to keep me going. Six workouts a week (when we're not sick that is) and eating well gets a little hard to do now and then. Life gets in the way.

So I thought about how I'd keep myself motivated. I thought maybe something to do with that whole looking cute when you work out thing. So I bought new workout clothes.

Which worked for about a second. Or at least the first time I wore them. Then I thought that I'd like to find a skinny leather choker to wear when I run. It would be my "running necklace". I would feel empowered by it. It would keep me going. Inspire me.

So I searched all over for a leather choker. Every single little Claire's, Icing, jewelry shop I could find. Nothing. Then I found a leather choker in one of those middle places in the mall for $4 and it broke within the first 5 minutes of my ownership. Literally. I took it out of the package and the clasp broke. Bummer.

Then, I found a surf shop that sold them and they were made special to not turn your neck black when sweat and/or water hit it and I was really excited. So I put it on before my run.

And I looked like a dominatrix.

So that didn't work.

But I was still into the cute inspiration necklace thing. I didn't want the dream to die. And one day, out of nowhere I found some charms that I really loved. So I made my own necklaces that didn't break or run and I put charms on them that I could feel empowered wearing. Like "Discipline" or "Love Life, Live Life." Or "I need more cowbell". (I wore that one out dancing.)

Now these are me. I've found myself wearing them pretty much every day. With pretty much every outfit. They even hold up to constant showering! Believe it or not.

Anyway, I love them. So now I'm addicted. I love these necklaces because they inspire me. And they keep me inspired when my inspiration whittles down to zero.

The moral of the story is, I would love to share these with you. This week, I opened up my own little Etsy shop with my own little necklaces and today I am giving one away. So head on over there and take a look around. (It's over there on my sidebar too!)

Pick a style that you like and leave me a comment with which one you would like and Mr. Random Number Generator (I call him "sir") will decide who gets it. Comments close Sunday night at 10pm e.t. Winner will be announced Monday morning. Good luck to you! If you don't win, that's ok! I have a week-long special going on there! Check it out!

Tuesday's Bloggy Lovefest- A Potpourri

Look, I got some bloggy bling! Thank you, Maggie! And if you've ever read Maggie's blog, Maggie's Mind you'd know what an honor it is to get an award from such a kick-butt writer/blogger/poet. Thank you Maggie! This is the Arte Y Pico Award, and it was created to honor bloggers who have inspired others through their creativity. The best part about it is the fact that now that I've received it, I get to pass it on to 5 others! And since Tuesday is all about the lovefest, this is perfect! Can I give it back to you Maggie? Because honestly, you inspire me with your writing and your photos in almost every post.

One of my favorite blogs is We are THAT Family. Kristin's stories and energy inspire me daily. She is so genuine, open, and just downright hilarious. She makes me want to be a better writer. Oh, and by open I mean that she doesn't mind admitting that she goes to Chick Fil A so often the drive-thru lady knows her name before she sees her face. I mean, by her voice when she's ordering. Funny! But I have literally laughed and cried to her stories and she is so worth a daily read. Lots of other people think so too. You can tell by the sheer masses of comments she gets.

Another blog I really like is CanCan at Mom Most Traveled. She offers a lot of tips and giveaways, but that's not really why I like her. I like her for her bravery. She is a mother of two very youngins and is about to travel with them to Asia. She is not afraid. She's traveled with them alone. I'm afraid to take just one of mine on a two-hour flight alone, much less a something-teen-hour flight. Anyway, she also works a lot at being more "green" which I am starting to try to do myself but for me it's baby steps. I just bought the re-usable grocery bags and I'm feeling pretty good about myself.

I've already bared my bloggy heart to SJ at My Big Fat Irish Blog and And All the Jones Men, so in hopes that I don't seem stalkery, I must say she has some serious picture-taking abilities. Her photos always make me want to do the Weekly Winners meme but I don't think I can add another meme to my repertoire right now. But she does inspire me to take more pictures and try to catch "those" moments. The ones that make good pictures.

I have two more blogs to give this award to and I will finish this week. Though that is not in the rules below, I hope they will forgive me. Here are the rules for the awardees (if you should be so inclined to pass the award on to others).

1) You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award, creativity, design, interesting material, and also contributes to the blogger community, no matter of language.
2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
3) Each award-winning blog, has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.
4) Award-winning and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of "Arte y pico"blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.
5) To show these rules.

Before you go, I have some more bloggy love for you, and this is bloggy LUV. With a U-V.

Do you use Luvs or know anyone who does? Wednesday, they're giving out $5 coupons at their Web site! They're an already inexpensive diaper (and they're actually really good -- and I'm not just saying that. We used to be Pampers-only people, but we've added Luvs to the mix.)

Anyway, bookmark the site and remember to go there Wednesday for the coupon because the coupons will run out. Also, I will have a Luvs giveaway soon, so check back here for that! Meantime, while you're at it, click on mom-comedianne Anita Renfroe's new video below which is part of the Luvs promotion -- but the song itself is pretty funny.

Unofficial Fat Ticker Friday + Pearl Jam Sandwich

I realize we haven't gotten officially underway in the Summer of Me Weightloss Challenge, but I am still weighing in today and next Friday and you can feel free to too if you should so desire. It might be a better idea for me to skip it, seeing as though I had many a moment of weakness this week (in the name of celebrating post-5K) and made some very bad choices (alfredo sauce, Coldstone Creamery, a post-Pearl Jam midnight Mickey D's run, oh that should about cover it).

Also, my normal six-day workout schedule has somehow widdled itself down to 4 days this week, but that's ok because once the actual official training for the 10K begins, there will be no wiggle room whatsoever so if there is any time to skip a workout it's the present. My ability to look at the cup half full is uncanny. Really.

I hope there isn't a weight gain today, but I will check around noon, my usual time, and report back right here. I wouldn't actually be surprised though.

So, back to Pearl Jam!

There are no events in my life without incidents. If there were any time that I would have found a GPS useful, it would have been yesterday. More on that later.

Pearl Jam, though, was wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! I realized, however, that it might be a good idea to listen to some of their more recent music, since I was the one sitting down during the new stuff (poor choice of shoes -- cute and open-toed, but tall and painful) and rocking out during the old stuff. But it was so much fun. I forgot what it was like going to a concert during a political season and how political the actual concert tends to get during times such as these -- kind of takes the fun out of it for me, but whatever. Still fun.

And as I get older, I think (and probably over-think) about how funny it is that the concert ends about four times. Three fake endings where you have to do the obligatory "Nooooo! Come back! We want morrrre!" cheering and lighter lighting and feet stomping and more yelling and clapping and yelling.

I used to think that if I didn't do it along with everyone else that somehow I'd be the one responsible for the concert ending early. But now I just sit back and let everyone else do all the work until they come back and sing again. Last night, it was about four times. Sometimes the concert ends prematurely, without the band singing whatever song I had actually gone there to see. But last night, they played everything I wanted to hear and actually they turned into the band who wouldn't leave! Not that I'm complaining, but they actually kept going. And going. And going. The lights even turned ON at one point and they still kept going. It was the longest goodbye ever! Maybe that's what happens when you're an older rocker and you're glad you still have fans.

As predicted, much of the crowd was made up of people my age. Who were around college-age when Pearl Jam was the most popular thing on the planet. Who wore flannel and Doc Martins back then and got their first tattoo and dyed their hair that purpley red. (Oh, just me again?)

Highlight of the evening: getting carded! (Yes, I had beer. But my more conservative self had just one beer). I wanted to say to the lucky carder, you do realize that by carding me you are telling me that you are thinking there is a chance that I might be 20. Because that is under 21.

But instead, I said, (giddily -- I think I may have even jumped up and down briefly) thank you! You made my night! Possibly even my month! Or year! Have a nice day! Because I was just thinking a couple of days ago that my carding days were over and got mildly depressed. It had been a year since I had been carded which meant that there was no question whatsoever in anyone's mind anywhere that I was, indeed, old.

Which brings to mind the following: I had already decided on the way to meeting my friend before the concert that she would drive.

It wasn't really a question of whether she would drive. There was something in me that absolutely outright refused to take the minivan to a Pearl Jam concert. I have to draw the line somewhere. And thank God she doesn't have one. Or we would have taken a cab.

Anyway, to the mishaps and miscalculations that always seem to appear in my life (I have learned to just roll with these).

I got lost exactly twice. On the way there (which wasn't too bad, she was running late anyway). And on the way back. I ended up in some sort of dark industrial park following a bunch of detour signs, and got on the wrong entrance ramp to the interstate, the one that bypassed my exit entirely (I would have realized this had it been daylight) so I ended up on the wrong bridge with no u-turn possibilities whatsoever and had to continue all the way across and take the long way home. Which happened to pass by a McDonalds, and well, a cheeseburger without mustard later, I was home. (Why do they insist on putting mustard on cheeseburgers down here??)

So today I will have the marathon workout which won't help me really because the damage is done so I'll just call this the "damage control workout".

Happy Friday the 13th! Don't forget to sign up for the giveaway that ends Sunday HERE and sign up for the Summer of Me HERE!

Thursday

Oh Decisions, Decisions (oh yes and a giveaway)

I have a decision to make tonight. Maybe you can help me.

Go to the gym and work out. Oooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:

GO SEE PEARL JAM!

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

OK, you don't really have make up my mind for me. The gym will still be there tomorrow, I will just have to have an exxxxtra long workout (legs, arms AND a run-yikes!)

Can we just talk for a minute about how excited I am? I seriously might piddle.

My dear friend, Jenny from the block, well her husband got free tickets last minute and he couldn't go (so sad! tear!) so she asked me. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I feel like a teenager. You may remember a few months back when I wrote about how a fetus who was waiting on me at Starbucks actually said, "Who is Eddie Vedder?" when I commented about how old (sorry Eddie) he looked on a CD they were selling. Anywayyyy, yes, they're climbing the age ladder like I am, and I guarantee the crowd tonight will be all moms who rocked out to them in a drunken stupor while studying in college. Oh, the memories!

OK. That is all.

OH WAIT! No it's not! Totally un-Pearl Jam related! I have a giveaway! (I am feeling oh so happy these days!) And really it's funny that this is going in the same post as the Pearl Jam concert but really I don't feel like doing two separate posts I am just too excited. In fact, this is quite the opposite of Pearl Jam. Haha. I'm laughing again at just how opposite this really is!

There is a CD, it is a lullabye CD that I LURVE. Love with a u-r. (You can laugh now too). I heard it for the first time at my photographer's studio while we were getting our 3 month photos with Mini. Now, normally, I am not a lullabye cd person. I like to do the singing myself (my poor kids. I am pretty sure I've turned Pearl Jam into a lullabye at some point.) But this CD is actually so lovely, I listen to it even when I am by myself in the car. It is all acoustic. No words. I pretty much love acoustic anything. And this particular cd is almost spa-like. It is so lovely that when I heard it for the first time at the studio and was standing there rocking my baby, it gave me goosebumps. I had a moment. I got all verclempt. My baby fell fast asleep. Anyway, you know how I like to share my favorite things with the world, so just leave me a comment to enter this lovely giveaway. I'll close comments Sunday night at 8pm et and announce the winner Monday morning. Meantime, I will be rocking out to Pearl Jam tonight and if I had all of your phone numbers, I would call you and leave you an annoying concert message and yell into the phone about how they're playing your song. But you wouldn't be able to hear it because it would sound like this: SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (white noise) (white noise) SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

(plus screaming.)

Have a nice day! Don't forget to enter the giveaway!
