It's Weigh-In Wednesday at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans (and if you haven't joined yet, did you know we're starting a new fitness/weightloss challenge December 30th? It's gonna be so much fun! So if you want motivation, sisterhood, and an amazing support network just in time for the new year, you oughtta come join us! We're changing bodies one pair of pants at a time!)
Well this little challenge was quite a challenge for me. I maintained, mostly, throughout. That's the good news. I worked out some but not as much as I did when I was training for something. And like in all things that are cyclical, when I worked out less, I ate worse. When I ate worse, I worked out even less. So now you don't have to do that research, I did it for you!
I know, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. When I felt myself slipping, though, I did get back into working out and I always eat better when I work out. So if I was up a pound, it was gone as soon as it was on. And right now, it's on! I'm up a pound from last week.
Since I'm kind of freaking out about getting back into a poor pattern, I'm really working hard on talking myself into staying into my workout regimen as much as possible, which is hard especially during this time of year when there is soo much other stuff to do that I find myself thinking, "Hmmm. I could really get some shopping done by myself instead of going to the gym..." Because I could. I reallllly could. I could get some serious shopping done.
But on the flip side, that window is probably one of my only windows where I can just have some me-time. I can put on my IPod and shut out the world in my (mostly empty) gym.
Which means I swam today in a silent empty pool. And it was nice. I also swam longer than I ever have. I swam my first mile. I was like the tortoise and it was the equivalent of slower than a 15-minute mile in running, I was that slow, but whatever, right? In fact, I googled how fast a 1500m swim should take and I got three answers: the Olympian (14 minutes) and the pretty good swimmer (20-25 minutes) and then people like me (40-45 minutes). One of the answers was a Wiki answer in which someone answered the question, then on the end said, (and I'm totally paraphrasing here) be glad you swam a freakin mile.
HAHAHA! So I'm going with that answer.
The final tally:
Weight: up 1/2 lb for the challenge (Darn. But not so bad as my pants still fit! There is something to this accountability thing. In my former life, I'd have been off the wagon completely by now.)
Mileage: I've run/biked 52 miles for the challenge. However, I did not log my spin class miles (have no idea how many) so that would bump me up a bit.
Non-scale victories: Beat both my personal best times in the 5k and the 10k, ran my 5k in 29 minutes (YAY!!) and the 10k in 60 minutes exactly!! (Husband beat me by 40 seconds and came in under an hour, woot!!) My mile pace has gone into the 9:30 range (HOLY CRAP!) Also, today I swam my first mile! (I mentioned that I know, but I'm pretty proud of it.)
Lots of NSVs and those DO count. So what are yours?? And how did you do??
That's all, sisters! New challenge at the Sisterhood on December 30, so take this time to prepare yourself and get your head in the game so you can start the year off right!! And that's when I'm really gettin moving, got that crazy triathlon in April, so I'm moving full steam ahead!

Weigh-In Wednesday: Shrinkaversary Finale
Weigh-in Wednesday: The Pre-Thanksgiving Edition
I'm into categorizing all my "situations" this week.
As in, if I'm about to deliver myself bad news, I also deliver myself good news.
Like, the bad news is... our Thanksgiving guest list is shrinking (Wah! I like me a good party.) The good news is... I found fantastic fabric to make a Thanksgiving table runner (did you know that all the fall-ish fabric is GONE?!)
The bad news is I'm behind in everything (as in, I was supposed to make said runner last night). The good news is there's a Curious George Christmas episode on and the "yellow man" is singing! And so is the doorman. And Chef Bisgetti!
The bad news is the kids woke up on the wrong side of the bed/crib. The good news is, my husband's coming home today at lunchtime!
See? Always good news.
So for weigh-in day at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans (have you joined yet?), bad news is I'm still up a pound since the start of the challenge and I skipped a very important 5 mile run over the weekend on account of Ikea and getting lost in it. Twice. The good news is I'm down a pound from last week! And I am doing a Turkey Trot 10k tomorrow morning with my husband and my dad as my turkey roasts in the oven. Over 600 calories burned before lunch. Sweet.
I'm feelin the holiday love this week. I'm feelin the thankfulness. My cup overfloweth (I really do know what that means now!)
So how did you do this week? Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your family and many blessings from my family to yours!!

Weigh-In Wednesday: The "TAKE THIS CANDY AWAY FROM ME!" version
Shoot. That scale's going in the wrong direction.
+ 1.
Darnit.
Well, if you must know, gobs of candy + very little working out = fat cells. More wordmath for you.I'm ashamed of myself. I may or may not have been spotted huddling in the laundry room taking down a mini-Butterfinger at warp speed in solitude. But in my defense, if they see me, they'll want one too! I'm sparing them the extra calories. Really .
Well one Butterfinger turned to four and then I found myself rummaging like a crack addict through the candy bucket to find more.
And well, no good came of it. I feel like a large lump today and I have no energy. And it's all on account of the Butterfinger.
Why do we do all this candy at Halloween?? I'm starting to look at food-centered holidays with contempt! If only I had a little self-control.
And since I'm a big proponent of doing something, instead of complaining about doing something (even though sometimes I just gotta vent and then regroup like today...), today I'm getting back in the pool and then spinning. And I'm sending the candy into work with my husband! Darnit. Tomorrow, I'm taking the little one to the gym. Friday, I'm going to bike. Saturday I'm doing some open water swimming with a couple members of my group, one of which is also a little heebied from where we've been swimming, in Jellyfish-land so see? We're changing that.
This week I did have a sort of breakthrough, I ran 3 miles (just short of 5k) in 28:35. Which means if I pound it out this week, I could possibly break my personal best of 32 minutes in a 5k! I've been shooting for the holy grail of the 30 minute 5k for forever and never quite reaching that, but maybe, just maybe, this weekend, on Sunday, which is World Run Day and the 5k run that everyone in the Sisterhood is doing as part of the finale to the EA Sports 5K Challenge, maybe that will be the day! Maybe!! Maybe?? I'm going to run my ass off.
Ps. If you're not doing the 5k challenge, go run on World Run Day anyway because well, it's World Run Day and millions of other people will be running too! And while you're at it, take some pictures of running on World Run Day! Maybe even a photo essay!
I have a small group of runners. Mostly my husband, my dad and my dad's friend and me. I know, it's small. But the race is sponsored by Blue Moon beer if that counts for something. Are you running?? Make sure you take pictures and share them on Sunday!!! And how did you do this week? Check in over at the Sisterhood! And if you haven't already, there are like a million zillion giveaways this month for the Shrinkaversary and all you have to do is have the ability to comment!
Happy Shrinking!
Weigh-in Wednesday: Shrinkaversary! And The Tale of the Tri-Pounds
(That sounds funny.)
Anyways, in honor of the Shrinkaversary, the month of November is going to be really super fun! With a giveaway EVERY SINGLE DAY! 30 giveaways!! And all you have to do is leave a comment to be entered into the giveaways!
I know I probably overshot the runway with the great news of the giveaways but stay with me here because there's more. TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!
Well sort of. It can be, if you let it! There is a new challenge starting today at the Sisterhood, and if you join, you will be among a wonderful group of women trying to lose weight together. We share tips, recipes, workouts, and the best part is, we share support. It doesn't matter if you've never been to the Sisterhood before, it doesn't matter if you've never worked out a day in your life. All that matters is that you're wanting to make some life changes and you want some support and encouragement.
We all need it. Safety in numbers, as I always say!
So won't you join us? We weigh in every Wednesday, all you have to do is post about your progress on Wednesdays and link to it at the Sisterhood. If you don't have a blog, just a quick update in the comments with your e-mail address. And we've got so much planned during this challenge, we'll be logging our walk and run miles and it's going to be fun! It'll be like a Sisterhood of Globetrotters! Just lace up and get on your globetrotter socks and headband (well not really, but we might! you never know what can go on at the sisterhood!) and we'll start moving.
Come on! The challenge wraps up right around the holidays, so don't you have a holiday party you wanna look HOT FOR?? Or instead of WAITING until after the New Year like everyone else to get started, don't you wanna get started NOW? SO YOU WON'T HAVE TO!???
Let's go, sisters! Lace em up! Let's get to a place in our life where we are uberhappy with ourselves because let's face it, if we ain't happy, ain't no one in our lives happy.
You can head right over to the scale RIGHT NOW and get your starting weight and go weigh in at the Sisterhood. Go on over, I'll wait, but come back when you're done!
Ok, so for my first weigh-in.
Turns out, I gain weight after every triathlon.
I don't know why, there's got to be some sort of scientific explanation involved or something. Sometimes I eat recklessly afterward, sometimes I don't and even so, I gain upwards of 3 pounds afterward and it's gone by Thursday. Never by Wednesday, because that would mean it'd be gone by weigh-in day and we wouldn't have that, would we?
Today, two of the three pounds I gained are gone, so that means, today, I have gained a pound since last Wednesday. I don't really count it, but it's Wednesday and it's weigh-in day and technically I'm up a pound so whatever.
I'm not too worried about it.
I will be worried if I'm up again next week. I took a few days off from exercising this week just to rest a little but I'm hopping back to it on Friday. I actually MISS IT!
So let's get moving again, okay?? I'm excited! Join us, will ya??
