Weigh-In Wednesday: The Long Lost Version

It's been a while since I've weighed in at the Sisterhood, I know! I have taken a short hiatus from weighing in, but the good news is, I've bounced up and down the normal 2 pound range but hovered around maintenance for the past few weeks. I haven't been trying to lose weight, I have just been trying not to gain. And I've been successful at that!

As far as exercise goes, we did the half-marathon in San Diego, I took it easy on exercise the following week, just did a couple workouts that week (scored a new pr in a 5k at a beer run and came in before my husband!) and since then, I've been slowly getting back into things. I have my first sprint triathlon since the Olympic distance in April this Sunday. Woot!

And I am excited!

Because it's my one year anniversary of triathlons! Sunday, I'm doing the same exact race I did one year ago. It was my very first one ever and I'm going back! I'm returning to the scene of the crime! I'm so so excited to see how I do and if I have improved over the year. So so excited! Because I looked at my time and in the "newbie" category, I did ok, but if I had raced in my age group, it would have been dead last. Not that there is anything wrong with coming in last, someone has to, but I'd like to think that I'd come in a little bit higher this go around. We'll see! I think the only way I'll do well is if I kick butt in the run, and that's pretty hard because it's just so hot when it's time for that run. I don't care if I come in last (well, maybe a little), I just care that I improve my time. Of course it would be nice to finish somewhere in the midpack....Anyway, I have a secret target time and I'm going to try and hit it.

I'm going to start joining back in on the weigh-ins in a week or two, once I get my new training plan in place because I have a few large races at the end of the year I'll be training for all summer, like:
-The Disney Wine and Dine 1/2 Marathon Oct. 1
-Miami Man 1/2 Iron Distance Triathlon (which includes a fresh water alligator lake-- yikes!)
-My very first marathon -- The Disney Marathon in January, and if you're part of the Sisterhood or not, we're gathering a big group of us to go do this! This is an open invitation! Calling all runners! Calling all sisters!

Anyway, the training officially starts for these things in a week or two (20 weeks out from Miami Man.) For those, I will want to get into better shape, so I hope that weight-loss will be included in there although it won't be my primary focus.

Oh, and ps. my new blog is in the works, I can't wait! It's almost here!! Baby Tea Leaves is headed for retirement, but there are great new things happening with the new blog (at least I think so!) so please don't go anywhere!!!!!!!!!
Happy Weigh-In Wednesday!

7 Days of Hooray! 7 Days of Gah!

I knew going into this that eating clean for 21 days would be a tall order. The first week I had some rough patches but overall I give myself an A-. The second week, well, I had two good days. If I had to grade myself it would be an Incomplete.

But I'm not beating myself up over it because in the end, I have added the following goodnesses into my life:

-Avocado
-Spinach leaves (and I actually crave this)
-More veggies in general
-Apples for breakfast, which were pretty normal before as a "snack", but now it has become our "go to" in the morning
-Very, very much less alcohol. Because I was having a beer or glass of wine pretty consistently with my husband for a while but now I have very nearly none. I won't say completely none, as I did have two beers this week (on Friday) when I couldn't calm down from the terrible day I had, not that I turn to alcohol for comfort but who are we kidding, I guess in this case I did. But it was in a social setting with my husband in an all-around effort to try and decompress. A naked chicken tender was just not going to do it for me that day.

So instead of looking at the negatives (which was my terrible eating all weekend through to last night which includes the following: Steakandshake burger and shake and fries, veal parmesan and fettuccine with WHITE sauce on Mother's Day, Mother's Day cake, and Mickey D's on Monday, I choose to look at the positives as stated above, despite my 4 day hiccup. And while I have had pretty much the week from hell (I won't lie, that did have something to do with my terrible eating) on the positive side, I have also chosen to do my best to channel my zen into organizing projects and gardening.

In the end, my weight is exactly the same as last week, which is good. I had a huge milestone running week, I actually ran 24 miles last week (8 last Tuesday, and 12 last Saturday), biked 12 miles and swam 2 miles (give or take) so I burned a bajillion calories, I just didn't replace them with the good ones. (My bad.)

So I will begin again, knowing that I have done an ok job at incorporating good things into my life and trying to remember that lots of activity is not a license to gorge self on massive amounts of grease and fat.

So. How did you do?

;p

Weigh-In Wednesday

Hi!

Well it's Wednesday and you know what that means!

I weighed in, I lost a pound. Woohoo! (Does it count that I've gained and lost this same one for a couple of weeks now? Not really? OK. Fine.)

I am on a 21 day "eat clean" thingy and I did pretty well this week, for the most part. Except for the part when my friend scored tickets to a benefit held by former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Derrick Brooks at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and there were football players everywhere was a completely open bar and gourmet buffet. I only had sushi though and one asiago cheese ball (I said cheese ball, huh huh huh huh) but I am ashamed that I violated my no drinking policy with vodka and cranberry (you know, for the antioxidents and besides, cranberry juice is great for your urinary tract and whatnots). And around midnight, a slice of pizza at the Hardrock Hotel's food court.

So it was a day of indescretion or as my friend called it, a wash.

But one day out of 7's not bad.

And plus I paid for it the next day. I was dehydrated (not hungover!) and beat (I got home just before 1 a.m. which is unheard of on a Sunday night!) All reasons I am doing this in the first place! Yeah, that's it! I did this in the name of research!
I have learned a lot though so far. I've learned that I really do have a pattern of eating out of leisure or boredom or just because it's there, and I've learned that even if it fits into my calorie allotment, I don't always make healthy choices. It's been nice to eat a ton of spinach salad (and have the kids fight over my last little "leaves"!) and introduce guacamole and avocado to the kids (and have them love it!) and grill up a ton of chicken breast and have it to pick on for a few days. I even found myself switching to yummy tea instead of coffee and having a pomegranate spritzer (the juice with seltzer) in a wine glass!

I hope week 2 goes better though, this really does take some discipline and concentration and it really is just plain old kinda hard! What are you doing for your 21 days??

Hop on over to the Sisterhood to read about everyone elses!

The 21 Day Challenge

Sisterhood 21-Days Challenge

I'd really rather not weigh in today, if it's all the same to you.

Because it's a post-tri weigh-in, and of course, I'm up 1.5 pounds because that's what I do. OK so I guess that by telling you that, I've actually weighed in, so there. It's out of the way. Done.

At the Sisterhood, we're starting a new challenge today. And I urge you to try it with me!!! We're picking a healthy habit or two and we're doing it for 21 days -- ya know, to try and make it stick as a habit! Because you can do anything for 21 days, right? I mean, it's just 3 weeks! It's not even a month! It's like 5 minutes, really....

I was trying to figure out what I'd do and it just came back in my head over and over again, the thing I want to do is get serious. And by that, I mean, I just finished my first Olympic distance tri, I just got my haircut, and now that I have serious hair, I want to buckle down. And I just got off the phone with my personal consultant (my best friend) and she talked me into it, further solidifying my stance. For 21 days, I'm going to eat clean. That means, no sweets (or nearly none) and no takeout, fast food or restaurant crap. It also means no alcohol, but I was already doing that, so I can just continue to do that.

Why? Because I'm on the last little bit of body fat and when you're at the last little bit, every single calorie and food choice counts. I was on the fence about doing this because of my current food obsession which is Taco Tuesdaze at Tijuana Flats, I am so in love with their beef tacos and sweet chili sauce (Gawd, I can just taste it now, so sweet, so spicy, sooo yummy!) but my dear friend and consultant reminded me that it would only be THREE Taco Tuesdays that I would have to give up in this challenge, and honestly, the placement of Taco Tuesday is so unfortunate in the first place because weigh-in day is WEDNESDAY so why can't they change it to Taco Thursday is what I want to know, so 3 Taco Tuesdaze is no freakin big deal. So I don't eat the tacos for 3 weeks! Like that's gonna kill me??? It might. But I won't think about it. So,  good, clean food for 21 days. No alcohol. And continuing on my half-marathon/triathlon training schedule. That's the plan. Which means I will have nothing to confess for 21 days.

What will you do? You can do anything! You can try to hit 10,000 steps every day! You can add a daily vegetable! The world is your oyster! Try something, anything! Join us for 21 days starting today!!!!!!!! And then go check in and comment about it HERE.  It's sooo worth it. You don't even have to have a blog, you can just check in every Wednesday in the comments at the Sisterhood. Or if you have a blog, you can blog about it and link up in the comments so we can all come around and cheer you on. Come join me for 21 days!!! Won't you??

Weigh-In Wednesday: The Final Spring Fling Weigh-In & More Tri, Don't Quit!

Sisterhood Spring Fling Challenge

Holy moly, it's the end already? Seriously, where did the time go? I don't want to say goodbye to my team (G4!!), I love my team! I think we're going to have to have an afterparty, girls...

OK, here are my stats for this final weigh-in (HURRAH!)
This week's loss: 2 lbs
Final tally for the challenge: 6 lbs! Squeeeeee!!!

It'd be more if I buckled down a little more and stayed consistent, but I had ups and downs the whole way. Things really started moving though when the training picked up, which fittingly culminates on Sunday into the tri I've been training for all winter!!! And for that reason, I cannot picture my life without some sort of fitness/race goal, without a training plan, and without an eating plan. I have only been loosely following Weight Watchers, but I still go there for guidance and I have a rough idea of what I should be eating in response to the amount of activity I'm doing and vice versa. Turns out, I am one of those people who needs a goal, written in stone with a hard and fast race date, and the goal cannot just be "lose weight." For the next challenge, which is right around the corner, I will be focused less on weight and more on body fat percentage. I am only a pound or two from goal weight, but now I would like to shrink the rest of the flab and turn it into muscle!

tridontquit_edited-1

For my first Olympic distance triathlon (.9 mile swim, 24 mile bike, 10k run), I picked sort of a famous race (St. Anthony's) and it's on Sunday. This week, I am in the middle of my own personal "Tri, Don't Quit" week where I am spending the week trying to remain zen-like, looking ahead toward Sunday positively and trying to tell my little inner panicky voice to remain calm in the water so that we can get through that swim. "Tri, Don't Quit" has become my mantra this week. There is only one way I'm getting out of that water on Sunday and it's by swimming out, all by myself.

Here are some more things I'm thinking about as I head into Sunday:
  • There are more than 3,000 people doing this race. I have actually heard 5,000. Which means, that many people will be swimming that course.
  • I don't know how many have swum the course before because they've done the race before, but at least I know I have! (On Sunday, it was rainy and rough.) And there are plenty who haven't! So feather in my cap for that.
  • There are 15 YEAR OLDS DOING THIS RACE! I am going to be 35. What 35 year old is this wimpy? I could be their MOTHER! If I were 15, would I want my mom to be badass and fearles? Or wimpy and the type to give up?
  • I ran with a wonderful Ironwoman this week who has done 3 IRONMAN races, including Kona. Even she says the anxiety in the water never fully goes away. And she's been doing this for 20 years. It's just finding what works for you.
  • And by the way, if I keep doing triathlons, by the time I reach her age, I will have been doing it for almost 20 years myself. I may even find myself running with someone like myself one day, who's younger and still learning, and I would want to tell her I've been doing this for 20 years too and that I kicked some ass in my day.
  • Because even now, in my 30's, I'm shaping the person I want to be in my 50's. And 60's. And beyond. My legacy is whatever I am doing right now.
  • While watching my Ironman 1999 video a week and a half ago, I remembered something one of the awesome Ironwomen said. She said, (and I paraphrase here) that when you're going through the swim, the bike and the run, and you're finding yourself running into different conditions that are difficult either mentally or physically, you look for something in it to love. If the wind is blowing real hard, love and appreciate the wind. If the sun is real hot, love and appreciate the sun and the cloud that eventually comes out. In other words for me, love and appreciate the waves, the water on your skin, your body gliding through the water, the fish and all of God's creatures in the sea...
  • My tri-club president was sidelined most of last year because of an injury. He trained with us last year, but he only volunteered at the races last season, so a week and a half ago when we all did the first one of the season, this one was his first one since before his injury and he was so happy to be back. I'll never forget standing on the beach getting ready for it to start and he said out loud to no one in particular, "This is my reward for all that training I've done." He wasn't nervous for this race. This race was his reward. And he kicked ass, too. What a comeback.

Have a wonderful weigh-in Wednesday! Hope you did great things this week and cheers for the week ahead!!!

Weigh-In Wednesday: The Post-Race Version (You know what that means)

In following with true Christie O. traditions, I have, again, gained weight after last Saturday's triathlon, followed by our longest Team In Training run yet, the 10 miler. For some reason, I gain weight after a tri (I'm going to have to do some scientific research on this) and it disappears on Thursday or Friday but it never disappears by Wednesday, which is, unfortunately weigh-in day. Today, I'm up 1.5. Suck.

So in keeping with the tradition and in lieu of I-knew-it-was-going-to-happen-I'm-sorry-dear-teammates, I'm looking at the cup half full here and going with the non-scale victories.

As in, like, I ran 10 miles. And I did it without wanting to entirely die! Usually my breathing gives out before my legs, but this time, even the first 1/2 mile of the run didn't suck, the whole thing went fantastic! And it was beautiful out and I ran and I ran and I ran and at one point yes, it did feel like it was forever but that's because it was, it was an hour and 42 minutes of just running. And stopping just once to take a picture of this:
alligator2

And this:

alligator

Two separate (and huge) guys swimming in the bay! It wasn't even a lake it was a tiny inlet of the actual bay! Crazy gators.
It took me 1 hour and 42 minutes and the only part that stunk was the massive migraine I had for the rest of the day (exercising for long periods of time tends to trigger migraines in me, and boy, you learn a lot about your body when you do these things.)

Anyway, the other NSV was my first triathlon of the season last Saturday! I swam 1/2 mile, biked 10 miles and ran 4 miles in 1:32, beating my last swim by 3 minutes and instead of running 3 miles in 30 minutes, I ran 4 miles in 34 minutes! Which honestly makes me question the actual length of the run, because that pace just doesn't seem possible to me, I am thinking they are probably off by at least a third of a mile.

It was kind of a rough food weekend as I give myself a freebie on race days (BBQ-yum!) but then there was the little issue of my son's birthday party on Sunday (which honestly didn't go that bad, little cake, little pizza...ok maybe the chips and coke weren't necessary) and then Monday, which was his actual birthday and he requested hot dogs... But by Tuesday my body was rejecting all bad food and it craved plain grilled chicken and rice and plain cheerios, and plain goodness. Plain plain plain.

That's all for today. I have so much to post that's tri-related, like my race report and my swim updates and pictures and stuff that's just plain old life-related, because even when all my events are all over it still feels like there's always stuff going on, and well, life is getting in the way of my blogging. What I really want is one full day to just write and write and write. Anyway... cheers to another week, and my weight-loss by Friday. Ha!

Weigh-In Wednesday: The Lots of "Firsts" Version

  • 2 pounds lost and making it well into the 120's: check. (HURRAH!)
  • 1 pair of size 6 Lucky brand shorts that gave me the appearance of camel toe last summer now fit me and are actually loose: check
  • 1st official pair of khaki shorts out of the drawer and being worn because it's actually hot out and the Florida "winter" is officially gone: check (hurrah!)
  • 1st year EVER wearing a tank top completely unabashedly and without an ounce of shame of my arms (and my friends and family know about my obsession with "FatArm" and yes, "FatArm" was a "condition" with its own name): check
  • My first tri of the season this weekend! (Criminy!): check.
  • The first time the words "camel toe" appeared on this blog: check

Today is a good day.

Weigh-In Wednesday: The Post-Treadmill at the Mall Version

Good morning everyone!

Well let's see. Besides my 26 miles of walking on a treadmill at the mall on Saturday, last week I only did about half my training (I swam once and did spin class once. Wow. Really, that's not even half.) I was so busy leading up to the fundraiser that my exercising (and eating) slipped a little and plus I didn't want to wear myself out for the long day I knew that Saturday would be.

I'm happy to say I maintained. Officially. (Whew! That was close.)

I would also like to point out that I hadn't gone food shopping in a week and a half, and can I tell you how AWFUL I am when I don't go food shopping and plan out my meals and snacks? I cannot be trusted! I eat out all the time! I have candy and cookies and ice cream! When I plan it all out, I stay well within portions and eat with the big picture in mind. But when I don't go food shopping, it's just one meal to the next, no rhyme or reason and whatever I'm in the mood for. This is a real eye opener for me on one hand because I'm glad I'm so good about my eating when I go shopping right, but what a slippery slope for when I don't!

So, it's time for me to focus. I have a mock tri Saturday and my first tri of the season in a week from Saturday. I want to ROCK IT. So I'm putting my game face on. Join us weighing in every Wednesday at the Sisterhood!

Weigh-In Wednesday: What works and what doesn't. Just so you know.

Sisterhood Spring Fling Challenge

Today I am all angsty.

My "Christie On a Treadmill at the Mall" event is Saturday and each day that passes, I won't lie, in theory I think it's hilarious that someone will make a spectacle of themselves by walking on a treadmill in their mall wearing whatever, but on the flip side, I am becoming increasingly aware that that person will be me. My self-consciousness is showing. Maybe if I can get through another cup of coffee, I can be awake enough to maybe shut my brain off. My chest is starting to hurt a little and I have nervous knots in my stomach!

I'm sorry. That's not why you're here. You're here for the weigh-in. Which is not good news, my friends. So, I will sum it up for you.

What works: daily accountability posts in "The Hood" with the rest of my friends at Team G.
What doesn't work: Throwing all caution to the wind and stuffing my piehole with the only bacon buffet I can find at a convention aimed at bloggers who blog about health.
What works: Finding the time to run more than 12 miles during the weekend of a convention aimed at bloggers who blog about health.
What doesn't work: Immediately after, splitting an entire pizza. And dessert. (And I am not naming names with whom I've shared this experience.)

All of that equals a 1 pound gain and that's the end of that. So now that I know what doesn't work, I will try to spend the rest of the week working on what does. Not that I've started off well this week because I drowned my stressy sorrows in McDonalds cheeseburgers today.

OK so. Starting over. Startinggggggggggggggggggggggggggg NOW! And by the way, head on over to the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans -- visit the other sisters who are trying to get healthy, show them some support and read about the awesome party going on!

Weigh-In Wednesday and A Happy St. Patty's Day!

DSC_1230
Happy St. Patty's Day!!! I'm not Irish, but my last name says I am!!! So I'm going with that...

We woke up and we had some green milk and some green eggbeaters (yum!) so we're in the spirit!

And I was totally stoked when I woke up because I was just planning on maintaining this week. But noooooo! I lost anyway!! Despite missing two workouts because the little boy was sick and eating only kind of half ok and definitely not counting points because we went to Disney last week.

I lost 2 POUNDS!

Woohoo! Thank you, body, for not listening to my diet and workout last week. I'll be good to you this coming week, I promise.

I'm sure you've seen our great big party at the Sisterhood by now, right??
Team Shrinking Jeans Bash

If ever there was a time to get something for giving, this is it! We're giving away dozens of prizes and hundreds of dollars (yes, real cash!) for your donation. Plus, every penny that goes to our team, helps ME get off the treadmill FASTER when I go for my "Christie On a Treadmill at the Mall" fundraiser one week from Saturday. I will be on that thing from the time my mall opens to the time it closes or until I raise $2,000! So not only will you be saving me, you could win something HUGE, not to mention the great feeling that you will come away with from helping to stamp out a horrible disease which so many of us have been touched by. So what do you say... You can donate to Team Shrinking Jeans right HERE. And take a look at all the prizes here!

Have a great St. Patty's day! I am sending you all a virtual green (light) beer! Don't forget to visit all the other sisters at the Sisterhood today and support them on their journeys! Want to join us? Head on over -- it's never too late!!

Thursday

A Very Belated Weigh-In Wednesday

Well, I've made it!!!  For this week, anyway, I have officially made it.

A 1.5 lb loss this week and I finally broke into the new decade of the 120s!!!! THE HOLY GRAIL OF CHRISTIE!! I feel like throwing a party! I don't every actually remember being here EVER! EVER EVER EVER! Except for high school when I remember being 117 pounds but I only knew that because I had a weigh-in in gym class. After that, I knew what size I was, but never really paid attention to the scale until my mid-20s (when it alllll went downhill or when my sizes went uphill, whichever way you wanna look at it.)

So here I am!!!

Makes me wanna eat a burger, to tell you the honest truth. Is that wrong?

Anyway, the best thing I have ever done in my life was set parallel goals (like a 5k or 10k or half-marathon or triathlon) to take my mind off of the amount of weight I had to lose. Because somewhere along the way it became more about fitness and less about weight and it actually started to come off. If I can just stay focused on that,  I'm going to have a great year.

By the way I am late in posting because I was out of town for the day yesterday with the kids and my best friend's family at Disney and couldn't post so I was all bottled up inside all day wanting to burst and do cartwheels! Oh sure, there were a few marginal food choices Reuben sandwich  but I am sure I earned about 150 activity points by going to a theme park with two toddlers and no husband -- do you have any idea how hard it is to carry a 30 lb toddler who's throwing a fit because he hasn't napped, up an entire grandstand of bleachers for a stunt show and down again while holding the hand of another squirmy toddler? The legs and arms burning, and my God the sweating...

This was my life all day yesterday. (Of course, we had a blast, we saw Mickey and my 3 year old's first crush (Snow White) and we danced in the streets during the parade -- but man was it work!)

How did you do this week??? Can't wait to see the leaderboard!! Woohooooo!

Weigh-In Wednesday: Team G

I love our team!! G4: GROOVY GIRLS GETTIN' GOIN!
GROOVY_edited-2
Our team is one week strong and already it's been such a wonderful support network, I love it. I needed this. (It's not too late to get on a team for the Sisterhood Spring Fling!)

So my week, in a nutshell, was mixed. I worked out great. I ate like crap. Until I looked into the virtual faces of all my dear sisters and decided I would eat crap no more. I would do this, finally, for myself, and for my team. Because I owe myself that much and I owe them that much too.

I started counting points again on Monday.

I have lost one pound. If I had counted points last week like a good girl, I would have lost more. Because I did add up all my activity points, and I earned more than 40! More than 40 activity points!!!!!! Now, you may not know Weight Watchers, but I get to eat 23 points a day. They give you an alloted extra 30 to spread out through the week and then if you earn activity points, you can eat those too. So I could theoretically get 40 extra points per week doing what I'm doing??

Yeah. I'm gonna be ok here.

How did you do???

Weigh-In Wednesday: The Spring Fling

Sisterhood Spring Fling Challenge

Have you been over to the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans yet this morning? Its beautiful Spring-yness hath befallen upon my eyes, simultaneously soothing me and inspiring me with it's flowery goodness! Or rather, IT'S SO PRETTY!

Today's the start of a new challenge and it promises to recharge our inner batteries and help us fall in love with ourselves all over again!

And who doesn't want that? So join the challenge if you haven't already! We're doing teams this time around for some ultra-mega-support! I'm very excited and can't wait to meet my team. Are you on my team??

For the start of this challenge, I found that one pound again. You know the one. The one I keep gaining and losing over and over again? That one. He's laughing at me. Taunting me. Wagging his little tiny finger at me, telling me he'll be back over and over again as long as I keep ordering pizza at 10 at night the night before a weigh-in. Yes, true story. Husband's fault. He should be looking out for me.

I haven't been counting points. I am so hungry I want  to eat off my arm and I turn to the gorge-y type things, the kind that you can only get in a drive-through. And usually it's after I exercise. Because all of my workouts have stepped up about 10 notches. I'm riding longer and farther than I ever have before. I am doing bricks that include a 13 mile ride and a 4 mile run. I'm getting ready for this crazy triathlon in April and I really need to eat better than that. I am exercising like I am in training, but I need to eat like I am in training. For some reason, because I know I burned so many calories, I have been giving myself a license to eat anything I want! Which at a gaining-weight standpoint is ok, but in the end, it just ain't healthy.

So that's what I'm focusing on this challenge.

Speaking of challenges, I signed myself to do a crazy public fundraiser to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society where I shall embarrass myself in front of everyone -- I've been tweeting about it, but it truly panned out! These crazy people are letting me do it! I can't wait to post about it! Ps. Vote for what I'll do on race day, right there on my sidebar.

Happy weigh-in everyone and happy challenge!!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Shrinking Jeans Olympics

Good morning! I am having the best time doing the Shrinking Jeans Olympics! For the span of the Winter Olympics, we have events going on every day (only these ones are doable -- no triple sow cow necessary or whatever that's called) at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. You really gotta check it out here, and plus there are medals involved! Sort of.

Anyhoo, I'm down one pound this week. Which is amazing because I didn't count points this week thank Goodness I didn't say that out loud. I didn't eat perfectly but I have religiously worked out, even when I was left all alone home last week alone with two sick kids. I bought a bike trainer (I even vlogged one of the workouts but apparently the camera wasn't pointed up high enough, so it was 40 minutes of headless bike rider or riding torso, depending on whether you're cup half full or empty. And I rode my own bike inside the house every day that I couldn't get away to the gym. (LOVE!) I'll try the vlog again at some point too. But I actually don't remember when my last "day off" was. Which isn't good! We must take days off! I think mine will be Friday.

OH YES, AND HEY! I'M GIVING SOME STUFF AWAY!

tntstrengthI make these necklaces, it started out as a necessity because I couldn't find one that I could work out in that was short like a choker. So I bought the leather myself and started making them and I put affirmation rings on them ("Discipline," "Focus," "Courage," "Strength"- inspirational messages.) Of course, I also have silly ones (like the one I'm wearing), "I Need More Cowbell."

I opened up my own Etsy shop and started selling them and have had a great response!

Anyway, remember how I'm training for a half-marathon to fight cancer with the sisters of Shrinking Jeans? If you donate $20 or more (RIGHT HERE - and completely tax deductible), I'll send you a necklace of your choice (with a leather or satin cord, your choice.). If you donate less than that, I'll send you my silicone "Strength, Focus, Discipline" bracelet. (Picture of that is HERE.)
AND ANY DONATION WILL ENTER YOU INTO A RAFFLE FOR A $50 gift card to Dick's Sporting Goods or Barnes And Noble -- your choice.

So pretty please? I've only raised 1% so far. Don't you feel bad for me? I'm pathetic.

ps. I'm going to do something crazy when I reach my goal and I'm letting you vote on it starting next Monday!!
Have a great week! I hope you did wonderfully and I can't wait for the new challenge, I hear it's starting soon and it's really really cool!! Meantime make sure you go visit the rest of the sisters!

Weigh-In Wednesday: No Whammy No Whammy No Whammy...

I woke up with a migraine and my child as the devil incarnate.

And then the scale said I gained a pound.

(No whammy no whammy no whammy no whammy...)

Triple whammy!!

So right about now is that place called "Moment of Truth." The one where I would like to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over my head.

And evade the gym.

And stop counting my points.

But do I ? No. No I don't.

Because there are perfectly good explanations for what happened this morning. First (and because Weight Watchers told me when it noticed I gained a pound this week), weight-loss doesn't always happen on my time. Which kind of stinks, because, you know, we have this weigh-in on Wednesdays and all, and I'd really like the scale to reflect all my hard work in time for it thankyouverymuch. But this week it didn't. Even though, since last Wednesday, I have run 7 miles, done a Body Pump class, spin class, and swam twice. Obviously the exercise isn't a factor since there was exercise on 6 of the past 7 days. Training for Team Shrinking Jeans and the half-marathon in San Diego and my triathlon in April has officially begun! For the next three to six months, I will be working my tail off. No question about that. It's game on!

As far as eating goes, I am pretty sure I stayed within my points, but I went to a church retreat with my mom over the weekend and they fed us their own stuff and it was either eat that or starve. I am pretty sure I was able to count the points and even if I didn't, I earned 27 activity points and hadn't even touched them, so I would hope that even if I counted wrong, I had extra to spare.. but who knows? (I did ask God to help me count the points...) But who knows if I counted an egg souffle right? And well then, nature happened upon me yesterday... (you're welcome.) So it could be all of those reasons, or one of those reasons or none of those reasons and who knows, I could see a drop in the scale by tomorrow. We'll see.

So for today, my migraine medication is working. My kids are eating breakfast, which is defeating the hungermonster which is in turn restoring them (especially the one that was a complete lunatic 5 minutes ago) to their normal, even-keeled selves. And I'm going to move on. Because this is already turning out to be a better day, even if the first 20 minutes of it really stunk. And how can it not be a great day? I'm celebrating 5 years with my husband on Friday! And we're going away for the weekend! Woohoo! (That should be interesting for my points situation!!)

Chim chimney chim chimney chim chim cherooooooooooooooooooo!

Wow, it's the end of this post and things are already looking up! So if you've have had a rough go today like me, I promise it'll get better! Just keep on keepin on, cause we're in it together. And if you had a kickass day already, hurrah for you!!

So have a nice day! And get thee to a runnery!

Weigh-In Wednesday - Vlog Included

G'day, mateys! It's another weigh-in Wednesday with the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans! (Don't know what that is? Go to there now!)

So I re-joined Weight Watchers last Wednesday. I couldn't be trusted. I don't do well without plan and I can't be trusted. I wish I did well solo, but I don't. And plus they were running a special. Of course, the same day I joined was the same day I had a McSplurge because I can be a McLunatic and I screwed myself out of any extra points for the week, which was case in point for why I can't be trusted. I felt like eating my arm off all week but to be perfectly honest, I don't know how many points are in one arm, so that wouldn't have worked either. On a lighter note (pun intended) I did have a Beck's Light, 64 calories, which is 1 POINT! ONE! I recommend you go to there. Wait, maybe have breakfast first.

So after all that, I did stick to my points every day. I didn't have my "extra" points because I devoured them. But I did earn some activity points by riding 30 miles over the weekend and doing spin class and I dipped into some of those. (These Weight Watchers peoples are generous.)

Week four of the challenge and week one of Weight Watchers:
1.5 pounds. WOOT!

So I'll take one of these little babies, thankyouverymuch!

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

Because I've lost 5 for the challenge so far. Woohoo!! (*happy dance here and song* Shawty -- it's your birthday! We're gonna party like -- it's your birthday!)

Now, last night, we had some fun on Twitter. Because it was Tuesday and The Biggest Loser was on and we like to do our "last chance workouts" during commercial breaks but since they're on Twitter, we call them "Tworkouts" (clever, right?) Basically, April punishes us tweets out exercises for us to do during commercials and we do them and our husbands or cats look at us like we're nuts. This week a few of us had some fun and videotaped it. So here's my little video! I am still in my workout clothes from spinning and I'll tell you, today the back of my legs are toast. In a good way. So, enjoy! If you're on Twitter, join us for our Tworkouts! (9 p.m. Eastern/8pm Central and there's also a West Coast version!)

(Thank you so much, You Tube, for making that shot the freeze frame. Awesome.)
Oh and guess what??? The Sisterhood is up for a Shorty Award!!! Can you go to there and vote?? Pretty please??? We're thisclose to being in the top 5!!!! All you need is a Twitter account!

Hope you did fabulous this week!!!

Weigh-In Wednesday: The "I'm Running a Marathon" Version

Sometimes when you feel like crap you just have to get out and pretend you don't. Like I am today. At Panera, by myself, with coffee. Don't worry, I'm in a corner keeping my germs to myself.

I'm going to do a "good news sandwich" here. Some good, followed by a little annoyance, followed by more good. So stay with me.

First, the good. The weigh-in at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans (Join yet? It's never too late!)I maintained this week! Woohoo! Which is fantastabulistic because honestly, I haven't gotten a workout in since Sunday and I'm not going to until my chest clears. I am all for working out with a headcold, I did it over the weekend and I felt fabulous afterward! FABULOUS! As in, I so didn't want to but did anyway and it was amazing. But when it moves down to the chest, it's a whole different ballgame. It's time to rest. Because it either is or will become an infection.

Sandwich meat. And I'm so sorry I'm the girl who's grumpy about being sick. No one wants to read about that, I know. That's pretty much why I haven't blogged. Because when I open up my computer, my head is all in a fog and all my inner monologue wants to do is curse. So I'll stop in a second with one last rant: AAH! I just can't seem to get over this thing, these spores, whatever they are! My skin hurts. I haven't been able to get a workout in this week yet. I feel like time is a-wasting away and that I'm good for nothing. I hate how time wasting being sick is and how useless as a human I am. Maybe I'm just annoyed because I can't get over this thing in a timely manner. Let's go, spores! We're on a schedule! We have a 20 mile bike ride on Saturday and a bike and a run on Sunday. I'll give you until Saturday and then that's it! M'kay?

OK I'm done. Last part of the sandwich. More good news. I am officially signed up for the Disney MARATHON next year. January 2011. I am running a marathon. Me.

I mentioned it to my husband earlier in the week. Last night, he looked over at me and asked me, "What size shirt?" I said "small." Me. A freakin' small. Holy crap that's awesome. I had a hunch he was signing us up and before he pressed confirm, he said, "Ok, this is it! Yes or no?" And I said yes. SQUEEE! This is it!

Why a marathon? After the half-marathon last year, which was so so long enough, I wasn't up for the marathon and I honestly felt like I pretty much never would be. I pushed the marathon to the back of my head because running 13.1 miles was so boring! And it hurt! And I really didn't see how I could keep my head busy during marathon training. Because really, my head is the most annoying place to be sometimes on long runs.

However, I've done a lot since last year's half. It's gone through a lot more (good) pain. And my body just has this way of deciding for me what's next. It's like I have no say whatsoever. I am doing a longer triathlon this year. I am doing another half-marathon in June (YAY, SISTERHOOD, YAY!) and the marathon is next January, which means that when triathlon season is over in October, I have nothing to do! So train for a marathon it is! And if I'm going to be stuck in my own head for 26.2 miles, why not be distracted by things like Mickey Mouse and Nemo and Lightning McQueen and Goofy and Donald Duck (ooh, shiny objects! pretty colors!) Yeah, it doesn't take much for my small mind. And I've heard some chatter from some girls in the Sisterhood about maybe? possibly? joining me next January, so if the marathon is indeed your "Holy Grail" as it is mine, won't you consider joining me? It's supposed to be a magical weekend. And if you don't believe me, read this race report from the Fit Bottomed Girls, who really just sealed the deal for me and completely inspired me. Picture a bunch of us girls piled up in hotel rooms (no one sleeps before a marathon anyway!) getting ready to run a marathon! There is also a half-marathon and a 5k if you don't want to do the full marathon! Just sayin.

So that's the short version of "I maintained." For every bad (like sickness) there's gotta be some good.

That's how I roll.

Weigh-In Wednesday: Body Fail and the Frog

Rethink Your Shrink!

It's weigh-in time over at The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans! (Have you joined yet? It's never too late!)

This week, I am down one pound. It was kind of a rough week with working out because I was taking care of all the sickies, but I did make sure to eat ok so that it would all be ok when I got back into the gym which was Monday.

Also I learned something about myself. I learned that there is an ab exercise called the "Frog" in which I have complete body fail.

You sit on your butt. You lift your legs and bend your knees and pull them up toward your chest. Meantime, you keep your entire torso off the ground so that your body is sort of shaped like a "V" and you're just balancing on that tiny piece of butt. and then you bring your arms and knees together repeatedly. Which would be great except that I can't even get my body to do the position in the first place! My lower abs are almost non-existent! Thank goodness I took this class! I had no idea they were this weak! I MUST CONQUER THIS THING THEY CALL THE FROG!

If you got a second, try it. I'm going to keep trying. This is why I took that crazy body pump class and why I keep going. Because I went into complete body fail the first week, and then the second week, it was a little better. (Not the Frog, just the class itself. I went into body fail during other parts too, like 1:30 of planks and inverted planks --this lady kicks my rear!) I think I might keep going because I love the weight training/cardio combo and the pain I leave in (I can hardly turn the steering wheel, my arms are so shaky and sore. They're actually still sore.)

I'll just keep repeating Pain is good. Pain is good. Pain is good.

Right?

Happy W-I-W!

Weigh-In Wednesday at the Sisterhood

Rethink Your Shrink!

Good morning! It's a beautiful day for a weigh-in don't you think?? It's week one of the "Rethink Your Shrink" challenge at The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans! (Have you joined yet? It's never too late!) We are literally changing from the inside out. Each week there is a project, and the projects help us define ourselves, reward ourselves, but most of all, put us on the path toward loving ourselves.

I had a great first week of the New Year. Well, all except for the stomach virus thing we all had. I'm going to pretend that that's NOT how the rest of 2010 will be for me.

Anyhoo, sadly, stomach viruses are always pretty good when it comes to weight loss. I'd like to think that it was because of all the work I did, though. No fast food, my treats were of the Skinny Cow variety, and lots and lots of working out. My hamstrings are still on fire from a Body Pump class I took on Monday night (not to mention the last chance Biggest Loser workout April put us through on Twitter during commercials last night!)

Anyway, grand total: -2.5.

Sweet! I'll take it.

I am sure that some of last week's "cleansing" aided this process, but who am I to scoff?

Go weigh in at The Sisterhood! Then go visit all the sisters, we all need support! Plus who doesn't love a comment?? Happy New Year everyone!
